What is 925 Silver? Silver as a pure metal is not suitable for making jewellery as it is too soft, too malleable to withstand daily use. Silversmiths alloy silver with copper to make a more durable material based on a 92.5% Silver/7.5% Copper mix. In the United Kingdom, 925 grade alloy is known as Sterling Silver and is hallmarked.
