Milford Designs is delighted to announce a new outlet at Chesapeake Mill in Wickham, Hampshire.
Visitors to Chesapeake Mill will find Milford Designs on the first floor with a selection of sterling silver jewellery, hand-crafted tealights and scarves.
Chesapeake Mill houses a range of home furnishings, gifts and jewellery in a unique setting and can be found in Bridge Street close to the former Meon Valley railway bridge. From the A32, turn into Wickham opposite the church. Chesapeake Mill is open from 10.00 to 5.00 Tuesday to Saturday and from 10.00 to 4.00 on Sundays and Bank Holidays. The Mill is closed on Mondays.
Chesapeake Mill is an historic building with an unusual past. The Mill is contructed using timbers salvaged from the USS Chesapeake, captured following a sea battle off Boston, Massachusetts, with HMS Shannon in the war of 1812. After capture, the USS Chesapeake was brought to Portsmouth for inspection and service with the Royal Navy. In 1819 she was sold out of service by the Admiralty and broken up. The timbers were sold and transported to Wickham for use within the construction of a new mill. The dimensions of the mill were and are dependent on the length of the beams from the USS Chesapeake. Evidence of the fierce battle between the two ships can still be seen with shot holes and other marks remaining visible in the timbers.
